August
2010 On Tap Notes

Well, summer tap session has come and gone.
Isn't it just like summer
stuff to get heated up then cool off all too soon. Thank you to all who
participated in the classes. I hope you had fun with your “Boogie Shoes”
and “Misbehavin'”!
A big thank you to Kirsten Searcy for making an amazing “On Tap” cake
for us. Wow. (Please contact Kirsten at
www.kirstensear4cy.webs.com to
see and order her Cake Creations. ) The photo above is Kirsten and her
daughter Molly who is now officially a tap dancer!
Thank you to Bianca Beede for coordinating the Mom and Me Irish dance
class. What a spirited group of dancers. I look forward to this class
taking giant leaps forward (2,3) in the fall. (An Irish play on words)
To the “Cooper Three Hand” (Jyll, Grace, and Eva) I wish you happiness
and the luck of the Irish as you make your new home in Eugene. Please
come visit often and keep dancing to your Irish beat! I will miss you SO
much.
Thank you to all the family and friends that came to support the summer
tappers. I am so blessed to know each and every one of you and honored
that you want to participate in the art of tap dance. May the spirit of
the dance be with you all summer long and beyond! See you in September
on Broadway!
Here are your August On Tap Notes to put into your calendar:
1. ON TAP IS MOVING TO BROADWAY! As of September 1 we will be dancing in
Annie Joslin's newly renovated Broadway Dance Building, which was the
Salem Synagogue on Broadway St. NE. Please mark September 13 as the
start of the new On Tap Fall/Winter Session 2010.Tons of parking, more
bathrooms, new dance floors, and more!
2. Don't let your tap shoes collect dust this summer! Leon Collins
routine #1 tap workshop with instructor Nancy Traina
on Tuesday, August 10 from 1-4
pm. Nancy learned the material from the master himself!
This 3 hour workshop is $35.00 This workshop will be at our current 241
State St. studio. Please email or call me to register for this great
opportunity. Tap experience necessary.
3. Come jam with me at the Tap House. It's a fun little get away to get
in touch with the rhythm of nature. Call 503-930-9333 to schedule dance
time.
4. The musical “A Chorus Line” is in Tigard! This is my favorite dance
musical and you just may be tapping to one of the show songs this next
session. The show is Thursday, August 19 at The Broadway Rose Theater .
Performances are held at the Deb Fennell Auditorium at Tigard High
School, 9000 SW Durham Road. The show runs August 4-22 with many date
choices. August 19th is my choice to go as a group. Tickets may be
purchased online or by phone. Visit this website for details:
http://www.broadwayrose.com/tickets.asp
Here's a synopsis of the show: “ For 17 dancers it’s a chance of a
lifetime to land a chorus role in a Broadway musical, and they put
themselves on the line for their dream. During the grueling audition,
the performers reveal their most personal stories of ambition, joy and
heartache in interviews with the director. When they’re done, only eight
will remain. Memorable musical numbers include “What I Did for Love,”
“Dance: Ten; Looks: Three,” “The Music and the Mirror,” and “One
(Singular Sensation).” A brilliant blending of dance, song, and drama. “
5. here
is the connection to the video my nephew Tyler made of our showcase in
May. He is really getting great at video production and just made this
for us. I hope you enjoy it! What fun memories it brings back. Thank you
Tyler!!
