About On Tap
Founded in 2003 by Stacey Brown, “On Tap” was created in memory of Gregory Hines. Stacey met the legendary tap dancer in Portland in 1999. Mr. Hines encouraged her to start teaching tap and begin gathering people together to share rhythms. Gregory’s untimely death in 2003 inspired Stacey to write an editorial about him in the Statesman Journal which lead to requests for her to teach others to tap. Stacey received her Bachelor of Arts from UCLA, is an AAFA certified group exercise instructor, and a performer with the Portland Tap Connection and the Molly Malone Irish Dancers in Salem. On Tap classes take place at the Riverfront Dance Studio at 241 State St. Part of each month’s proceeds benefit the Gregory Hines Life Center and the Marion Polk Food Share. The mission of On Tap is to have fun, keep healthy, and help others less fortunate attain “happy feet”.
